Maplewood Library’s Emily Witkowski Awarded Bloomberg Scholarship
Maplewood Library is pleased to announce Emily Witkowski, Teen Services Librarian, as a 2019 Bloomberg Fellow! Emily has received a full scholarship to receive a Masters in Public Health through the Bloomberg American Health Initiative.
The Bloomberg American Health Initiative at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health announced its 2019 cohort of Bloomberg Fellows, each drawn from an organization working on one of five health challenges facing the nation: addiction and overdose; environmental challenges; obesity and the food system; risks to adolescent health; and violence.
Ms. Witkowski says: “Libraries have long been considered the center of communities, places of interaction for people from all different walks of life and with all different needs. They are places where people come by choice, and where they are welcome regardless of age, race, gender, socioeconomic status, healthcare coverage, etc. Maplewood Library is a fantastic opportunity to interact with the patrons whose needs we serve, and in the democratic setting of the library, I hope to provide our adolescent community with services and support, specifically regarding social and emotional health.”
The Bloomberg Fellows Program is a groundbreaking initiative that provides world-class public health training to individuals engaged with organizations tackling critical challenges facing the United States. The Initiative will support a new generation of public health leaders in organizations across the country.
