Ideas Festival 2019: Tina Kelley, Maplewood Literary Award

Tina Kelley, Journalist, Poet, Author, will be interviewed by Library Director Sarah Lester, and will receive the 2019 Maplewood Literary Award.

Tina Kelley’s third poetry collection, Abloom and Awry, came out in 2017 from CavanKerry Press, joining Precise (Word Press), and The Gospel of Galore, winner of a 2003 Washington State Book Award. Ardor, her first chapbook, won the 2017 Jacar Press chapbook competition. She co-authored Almost Home: Helping Kids Move from Homelessness to Hope, winner of a silver medal from the Benjamin Franklin Book Awards.

Tina reported for The New York Times for ten years, sharing in a staff Pulitzer for 9/11 coverage. She wrote 121 “Portraits of Grief,” short descriptions of the victims. She won the 2014 New Jersey Poets Prize., and her poetry has appeared in Poetry East, Southwest Review, North American Review, Poetry Northwest, Prairie Schooner, The Best American Poetry 2009, and on the buses of Seattle, Washington.

Her freelance journalism has appeared in New Jersey Monthly, TheAtlantic.com, and Orion, Audubon, and People magazines She lives with her husband and two children in Maplewood, NJ.
