On November 7, 2017, New Jersey voters approved the NJ Library Construction Bond Act, making $125 million available for public library construction throughout the state. After a period of public comment in late 2019, the grant offering is now available, and Maplewood Memorial Library is working with stakeholders to submit its application prior to the April, 2020, deadline.

The design was developed taking into consideration input from extensive meetings with focus groups, an open community forum and an online survey.

After receiving 39 responses, the library has selected three award-winning firms for their talent, vision and wealth of experience designing libraries and civic buildings.

Moving forward with its vision of creating a 21st century library, the Maplewood Memorial Library Board of Trustees has awarded a contract to Sage and Coombe Architects LLP to create a conceptual design for the Main Library at 51 Baker Street.
The Board of Trustees selected Sage and Coombe in an extremely competitive process that brought in applications from 39 top-notch firms in the New York region. Recent Sage and Coombe clients include the New York Public Library, the Noguchi Garden Museum and the Greater Newark Conservancy.
