The Lenape: Their Legacy and History in New Jersey

  • Maplewood Hilton Branch Library 1688 Springfield Avenue Maplewood, NJ, 07040 United States (map)

A Native American Heritage Month Program

The program will focus on two aspects of the Lenape Indians. We'll look at their cultural impact on not only early European settlers, but also our current society. We'll also trace the history of the Lenape in NJ from their earliest Ice Age ancestors into the 21st century, from their arrival until their removal.

The treatment of the Lenape is a shameful part of our American history; it is also a continuing story of resilience of the Lenape people and their influence on our local history.

Presenter Dan Kaslow is a long-time resident of Maplewood. This program is built on extensive research he conducted.
