SPOTLIGHT ON HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH: Mexican tissue paper flowers trace back to pre-Hispanic times when a fiber called amatl, made out of tree bark, was used in ceremonial places and burials. Later, paper flowers were used to decorate in times of the year when natural flowers were not available. Today skilled artisans continue to share the craft year round.
