Our June title is Pale Horse, Pale Rider by Katherine Anne Porter. This longish short story is set in the pandemic of 1916-19, but don't run away. The piece is much, much more than a story of that period of illness. It is a psychological exploration of one young woman who has to live through and survive the sorrows and loneliness of the time and to rely on her own strengths to get through the levels of troubles she encounters.
As a bonus look up the nineteenth-century painting entitled Pale Horse, Pale Ryder by Albert Pinkham Ryder. The title is a biblical reference, so do a little search to find out more about that also.
